Owen Paterson

In other news,

"Johnson’s personal financial arrangements have come under scrutiny in recent months and on Thursday he declared he had received a free holiday at a luxurious Spanish villa linked to Lord Zac Goldsmith, a former MP whom Johnson ennobled.

The latest update to the register of ministerial interests revealed that Johnson’s near week-long stay in the Marbella property in October was funded by the Goldsmith family."

Great bit of mutual backscratching.

What a coincidence that Prime Minister Johnson is so determined to undermine Parliament's corruption watchdogs.

It's enough to put you off gold wallpaper.

One time of day most jobs had perks

you worked at BL you got a free car by taking parts home and self building it that was yer perks

worked at the docks 4 crates were off loaded ( dependant on contents ) 3 crates for the destination and 1 crate for the blokes

etc etc

And than some pencil pusher in some office decided to alter the definition of perks to theft

country has gone down hill ever since
I remember the good old days when any garage could give the binmen a bung and they'd take yer waste oil, tyres, batteries and even the leftover halves of cut 'n' shuts. Nowdays they won't take as much as a sweet wrapper if it's not sorted and placed in the right eco-friendly bin-bag.

The threat of the sack can focus the mind.

Greed will never disappear.

Yet a certain vociferous anti Brexit anti Tory anti vaccination idiot squeaky bum on here refuses to vote! Only has 'itself' to blame.
The thread is about Owen Paterson, not some poster on DIYnot.

Blimey it’s been suggested that this Reforming the complaints caper against MPs was an attempt to stop any further enquiry into Johnson’s wall paper / flat decorating caper

how cynical :sneaky:

yeah when we did a lot of work in London the bin men would come around various sites and clear building rubble and rubbish for a small fee

That was all stopped by the pencil pushers / paper shufflers in the council stifling innovation

Considering the widespread problem of flytipping i'd say the pencil pushers are doing us all a favour.

I almost felt sorry for Kwasi Kwarteng having been the latest minister sent on the morning news round to defend the indefensible before Boris decided to throw all concerned under the bus without informing anyone of his decision to do another handbrake turn on the matter.
As soon as our waffler-in-chief saw the Daily Heil headlines he shat himself and pulled the amendment.
Tories have been doing this since the days of Walpoles whiggy mates and still cannot see the conflict of interest it brings between business and the HoC.

Boris saw this an opportunity to get rid of the watchdog as they were looking into his affairs.

"Twenty-four MPs who voted to overhaul Parliament’s standards system are either under current investigation by its commissioner or have had allegations upheld against them since the 2019 General Election."

'The amendment, which passed by 18 votes, has seen allegations of “Tory Sleaze” resurface, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson accused of “moving the goalposts” to protect his stronghold in the Commons.

Key to that 18-vote majority was the backing of 19 Tory MPs who have had allegations upheld against them since the last General Election, Insider first revealed.

Those include Adam Afriyie, Scott Benton, Crispin Blunt, Peter Bone, Maria Caulfield, Robert Courts, Richard Drax, David Duguid, Sir Iain Duncan Smith, Mark Francois, George Freeman, Adam Holloway, Karl McCartney, Natalie Elphicke, Sir Roger Gale, Theresa Villiers, Bob Stewart, Chloe Smith, and Craig Tracey.

The amendment would not have passed if those 19 Conservative MPs had abstained from the
vote."

The difference being would be that someone senior at your place of work would have a right to appeal, the right to call witnesses or the right to have the evidence examined, maybe the system is flawed and needs looking at.

BUT, I do agree with you the way this has been handled does come across as corrupt, Patterson should have been suspended and then the system looked at.

Maybe it's time that lobbying is outlawed, or at least money changing hands for lobbying, the rules surrounding all this seem a little vague and fluffy.

The witnesses he called were character witnesses and not defending his conduct. You have just repeated the PR lies from the Tory Mps. On top his lawyers were present.

Sometimes you should switch off your Tory bot programming.
