Why people are dying in the backs of ambulances

Mrs Mottie works for the NHS and from what she tells me, the management is shocking. She has four managers above her. One is off on maternity leave and two have left and haven’t been replaced leaving one to do it all. It wouldn’t happen in the commercial world.
So would you/she prefer a private health care system?

Privatisation would get rid of half of the management and based on what I've seen, that wouldn't be a bad thing. It needs somebody to go in and run it like it was a commercial enterprise so that the taxpayers get better value.
That's the trouble people associate privatisation with them having to pay for care instead of looking at bigger pic.

No, We'd both prefer a National Health Service run efficiently like a private set up would be. I don't know much about private hospitals but I'd bet that they aren't top heavy with skiving, idiot managers with no understanding of efficiency who only get the job because they have a degree in feckology.

Private companies only have one thing in mind...

Profit before people!

Have you looked at what is coming from the other side of the Atlantic?

It's ok if you can pay, but if not it's f*ck off...

The NHS has many problems, but that's mainly political not staffing!

Really? Do you work for or run a private company? Does profit come before people?
Have you looked at what is coming from the other side of the Atlantic?
No. I've seen you banging on about it for 10 years though and no doubt you'll bang on for another 10 years.

Yawn.

Private business is run to maximise profit. That's what it's for.

The purpose of a public service is to the benefit the nation.
You do realise its not hard to draw up a contract putting a limit on amount of percentage profit as is already done in certain sectors

ah, you mean official regulation. Like health, safety, toxic ingredients, living wage, working hours, rest, conditions, pollution, tipping sewage into seas and rivers. To limit the innate desire of business to maximise profit at the expense of everyone else.

It has taken centuries to get where we are, and we have far to go.

Glad to hear you are not in favour of the unfettered market.

And that you do not deny that Private business is run to maximise profit.

"In giving his sentence, the Honourable Mr Justice Johnson said:

Each of the 51 offences seen in isolation shows a shocking and wholesale disregard for the environment, for the precious and delicate ecosytems along the North Kent and Solent coastlines, for human health, and for the fisheries and other legitimate businesses that depend on the vitality of the coastal waters.

Each offence does not stand in isolation. It is necessary to sentence the company for the totality of the offences to which it has pleaded guilty. But even that does not reflect the defendant’s criminality. That is because the offences are aggravated by its previous persistent pollution of the environment over very many years."

What about joining a club with the likes of Germany, France, et al, where if you wanted you could travel to that country and use their medical services, and they'd send the bill to the UK?
I suppose some xenophobic people would object, claim there's more opportunities in the rest of the world, that we don't need such benefits, or that we'd regain our sovereignty or some such nonsense.

like a private set up would be

And no, this is not the same case.

It is another case, where the same criminal organisation deliberately flouted the law for years.

"Southern Water has agreed to pay £126m in penalties and payments to customers following serious failures in the operation of its sewage treatment sites and for deliberately misreporting its performance.

In the course of a large-scale investigation into the water company, Ofwat found that Southern Water failed to operate a number of wastewater treatments works properly, including by not making the necessary investment which led to equipment failures and spills of wastewater into the environment.

Ofwat also found that Southern Water manipulated its wastewater sampling process which resulted in it misreporting information about the performance of a number of sewage treatment sites. This meant the company avoided penalties under Ofwat’s incentive regime."

it's more profitable to break the law, poison the sea, and pay the fines, than to behave responsibly.

Someone I know who works for the NHS tells me that their problem is that there is a gross imbalance between managers/admin/pen pushers and people doing the ground work/frontline.
Apparently every year more positions are created for clerical work and more are cut for frontline.
So not a matter of money, but simple bad administration.
Can some insider explain if this is the case?

Do you want to hear about the Conservative pro-business "Bonfire of the regulations?"
