I live in a basement flat. About 3 years ago I started hearing a drip drip drip sound coming from above my bathroom ceiling. It only happened occasionally - maybe for a minute or two each time, and only a few times a week (although that's only when I happen to be near enough to the bathroom to hear it).
It continues to this day.
It hasn't caused any water damage (that I can see...). But I can't find it. I've cut holes in my bathroom ceiling, and every time I hear drip drip drip I poke my head through and look at all the pipes etc. in the space in between my flat and upstairs. Everything looks clean and dry. I can hear the vague area where the drip seems to come from, but I just can't see anything.
There's a kitchen above my bathroom ceiling, but the owner had all the plumbing in the kitchen checked over (sink, washing machine, dishwasher, etc.) and apparently there were no signs of any leaks.
I don't think I've ever heard the drip drip drip during the summer months which makes me think it might be something to do with the central heating system.
I suppose a plumber could trace the leak but he'd basically have to live here so that I could get him into my bathroom at a moment's notice to stick his head up there. So I'm not sure what to do.
I could ignore it all I suppose, but the noise is annoying and there's always the nagging feeling that one day the drip drip drip will get worse and cause some real damage.
Are there any tips, tricks, gadgets, etc. that I could employ here? I don't know...some kind of microphone on a stick type thing that can locate sounds or something?
Thank you.
