I want a plant for the garden, i want to search the net for it, but i can not recall what its called

it looks like an old tree trunk with big green leave sprouting from the top (only the top, as if some one has stuck them there)

I have seen them on ground force, but typical its not on today.

I also seem to re call mr T saying they are a by-product, and considered to be "weeds" in austarlia or newzealand

the main trunk is chocolate brown in colour, with these dark green leaves coming from the top only, i dont think the trunk grows, only the bits on the top

any ideas waht they are called? (so i can search for them)

breezer how big a one are you after and what part of the country are you in? I have a very good source for them, as i use them all the time in gardens i design.

They arent a by product. they are harvested under license in new zealand. If you are going to get one, get it sooner rather than later as the NZ government are about to change the rules and theres a lot of uncertainty about if they will be exporting them anymore or if the price will leap up.

i dont really know what size, but i was vaguly thinking of 3-4 feet (would like 5-6)

I am in Luton, beds

Give these guys a ring and mention my name (its on the website). they will shift stuff all other the country. They are very very good. They dont deal in rubbish and supply bbc etc. I use them all the time.

just to let you know, i did email them last night, so they would ahve got it first thing thismorning, no reply as yet, perhaps the connection was down. i will wait, but thanks for the link

they dont open on a sunday, theyre a proper nursery not an old grannies lets visit it on a sunday and have tea, scones, buy the christmas cards, pet food and visit the toilet day while were here!

Make sure you protect the centre of the plant with bubble wrap or sacking in winter up your way. Just in case you didnt know they dont have roots they take their nutreints from the rainwater that gathers in the top. make sure you plant it securely!

Thanks, but their website says they are open 10-4 sundays, perhaps the office isnt

In parts of Cornwall, I've seen what look like palm trees in the pavements, like we would have a flowering cherry here, is that the same thing?

breezer, i was up there today, the main guys have been in spain and i know theyve been working on the website. Give them a ring and ask to speak to miles or bruce.
