Any technique to putting in those little felt nails? Too short to hold while hammering, I ended up pushing them in with fingers then hitting in
Well you got one thing right. Push the nail into the felt, it will stand up. Hit once with hammer. Move on to next nail.

Another way is to split a piece of cardboard and push the nail through, but pushing the pin in the felt is the best technique once you have practised it a bit.

OH deary me..
You did ask how to put short nails in.
Curved long nosed pliers are better than straight.

But by all means grab the other end of the stick.

Those pliers are £20. Curved ones.
 
IF you don't have any (and you can get them cheaper) then figure someting else out, like push the nail through a bit of paper first then pull the paper out just before the final nail down. :)
