Good evening kind experts!

My friend said her boiler wasn't coming on and she's freezing so could i take a look

would it be worth the risk to replace it and buy a recon fan unit and hope that fixes it?
or could it be something else it's an ancient thing worster boss or something
the fan must be knackered she said it was getting noisy.

If its anything like the fan on my ideal ff240 a bit of penetrating oil on the fan bearings may free it enough to turn, otherwise new bearings, otherwise new fan, of course you have to be gassafe or competent to do such work

When i got there the boiler cover was a;ready off I haven't touched it I'm not messing about with gas. I know she
is struggling they've cut her hours at work her husband died last year he was only 38, i feel i need to help her, she's
fit as well tho that's not the reason i i'm tryin to help her i promise.
Did notice the fan blade could be moved, spun with my finger.

Without more information and proper diagnosis, there's no way anyone could tell you what the issue is. Thats and the boiler is now in an unsafe condition as the room sealed case/combustion space cover has been removed. She needs a GSR engineer I'm afraid.

I can see both sides of the advice, from RGI and other side of the fence. Worcester Boss tells no one anything about the boiler on the wall. If the fan blade spins when not under power, it is not needing lubricated as bearing is not needing oil if you know what I mean :whistle::whistle:

Tinkering with your own appliance is up to you, to do it in someone else’s place having sought info from an open forum is another matter.

(whether this is for sealing purposes or just for keeping hot components out of harms way) is not going to kill you

If the boiler is room sealed and the case has been removed does the OP have the tools or training to check that the boiler is sealed back up properly and isn't feeding POC's (CO) into the room and potentially poison the inhabitants? Can he perform the checks required?

There's a reason that DIY gas advice isn't allowed on this forum.

I have no idea, but then again no one has told him to put it back on and recommission the boiler

How much do Gas Safe charge in Adromeda ?

They would find it difficult to locate a place with that name, without worrying about how much to charge. Also the flag is for Bouvet Island which is uninhabited and doesn't have much need for gas boilers.

I've explained to her i can only test the fan and see if works or not, maybe lubricate it. if it's borked i can order one then a gas safe guy can come and service her boiler and pass it hopefully. I thought this was allowed but not sure. She knows this
and wil just have to find the money, I will buy the fan for her if needed I'm just tryin to elp her is all I trust myself
