It looks like he getting the right sort of guidance when buying the stock, etc and goodwill. If you are really worried go with him to discuss the deal with the seller and have a look if possible at the last couple of years of trading. If that looks good agree to him have the unit. The best proviso is that he does not leave rubbish and scrap on the premises or yard area - particularly if open to all and sundry.

This really could be the making of him. At worst you have a pile of scrap to get rid of but that should fetch a return. Maybe he'd like some business acumen from you.

We both popped in for a brief chat with the bloke selling up today & ended up spending a few hours with him.

It looks like a nice & tidy ongoing operation, generates approx £40k a year with big room for expansion, so we came to the agreement that t'young lad will work for/with him for 6weeks & gradually take it over.

If he's still as enthusiastic after that, he gets the keys.
