I'm sure that a vast majority of yanks don't actually glorify guns at all but do glorify their loved ones and want to protect them in the most effective way.

Many would argue it's not a civilised society when rioters are burning down blocks of flats/courthouses/police stations while the democrats are either raising money to bail out criminals, defunding the police or just straight up claiming it's a myth that isn't happening.

The NRA doesn't speak for everyone, and to some Charlton Heston was a hateful peddler of violence. At least some Americans have a bit more sense and see the widespread ownership of guns as corrosive - after all for a so-called civilised country the USA has an extremely high murder rate, which comes down to so many people owning the damned things, so emphatically NO! - Not a necessary evil!

If he was running from a burglary, why was he jogging along a road in shorts and t-shirt, and not carrying anything? He was not running very fast, and running down the middle of a road, not exactly attempting to hide from anybody.
If it was self defence, how come one truck drove up past him to set an ambush, as is clear in the video, and pull guns on him and shoots?

Yes, he takes a swing at the man pointing a gun at him, after a shot was fired, but if you were a black man being hunting down by a lynch mob, you'd do anything to get out of there too. If that was self defence, then Wayne Couzens was acting in self defence too!
This was racist lynch mob mentality chasing a man on foot in their vehicles, armed with guns, which were aimed at him before he even realised he was ambushed.
