Hi

Recently had new skirting, door stops and architrave fitted. The gaps between the walls & Skirting/architrave I'll use chaulk, same as gaps between door stops and architrave etc.

Question I have is what about at the corners where the skirting meets, corners at the architrave joins, and joins on the skirting straights.

Is chaulk the job for this or wood filler?

The nail holes I'll be using wood filler, and sand down.

Are you fitting these yourself?
A joiner should leave close to nothing to fill, apart from the inevitable gaps between skirting and wavey walls.
 
Joiner is fitting these, I may have made this sound bad by saying gaps. The gaps are as you say the inevitable gaps between skirting and wavey walls.

I am just wondering whats best to fill the join lines, just a line of Chaulk or wood filler, see attached.

I've seen a lot worse.
If my eyes are still functioning, that's mdf, so caulk is fine.
Use a good flexible one, geocel is my favourite.

Yes MDF primed. The door stops are timber.

I think the walls and the fact they were plastered hasn’t helped. I didn’t think the joins were too bad.

There is another couple areas around the architrave that have gaps, this was down to the old walls and the re plaster being a few mm’s over the old door frames

Any suggestions to fill these? The is by far the worse one.

Caulk for everything except the nail holes.

Prime bare wood before caulking.

The big gaps between the door lining and architrave - these are a bit on the big side. They should have fitted thin strips of wood to the lining before fitting the architrave. A big gap like that may keep opening up over the years unless there is some wood fitted as described above.

You could squeeze in some no nails as long as it doesn't protrude onto the edge of the frames.
Try and get your caulk nice and smooth when it's wet as it's quite difficult to sand down! You could use a wet sponge.
 
I had also read maybe Stixall Adhesive & Sealant or Pinkgrip.

Anyone used the foam packers before?
 
yes chauk on the skirtings, there will always be a bit of movement with expansion contraction.

As for the door surround, he should redo that, its crap.
 
Thanks for all the comments, Question on the nail holes? I have a whole house to do and the thought of making up RONSEAL HIGH PERFORMANCE WOOD FILLER WHITE, filling all the holes and then sanding is not sounding appealing at all.

Is there anything else that anyone uses?
 
I use ready mixed filler from home bargains. 99p a tub. It's great stuff for nail holes. Just dab it in the hole with your finger. Sands down a treat! Think it's Bartoline or everbuild
