Hi,

Sorry if this is the wrong thread or area to put this. Do I need an electrician to install lights for a low ceiling?

I haven't decided 100% what I am getting but something similar to the types of lighting below. Would I be able to just follow a youtube video with the wiring or is it best to get someone in? I have a basic grasp of electrics but that is it.

Define electrician? like "A person who possesses sufficient technical knowledge, relevant practical skills and experience for the nature of the electrical work undertaken and is able at all times to prevent danger and, where appropriate, injury to him/herself and others."

So if you have been taught to replace a 13 amp plug as school as my kids were, then for that job you have the skill. Problem with youtube is anyone can upload a video, if you said following a video by John Ward then likely the answer is yes, we all know John Ward has the skill to show you what to do, however never seen a video he has done on fitting lights.

There is no types of lighting below, but fitting this GX53-lamp-holder.jpg lamp holder (GX53) involves one small hole for cable, but many MR16 lamps be it GU10 or G5.3 need large holes in the ceiling, which can be a fire risk, so even an electrician can get it wrong, may be electrically safe but not fire safe.
