What should I treat plasterboard with before tiling? I am using stone floor tiles to tile behind my wall hung toilet. Is PVA adhesive good enough for this? Mike

You should be able to go straight onto the plasterboard without any primer/sealer. Sometimes a primer like BAL APD will give a bit more working time as it stops the water being sucked out of the adhesive too quickly but does not improve the bond.

You should also be using a powdered flexible adhesive as Tub stuff will not be ideal for the larger size of tile.

Thanks for this Jason. I've never heard of BAL APD! Where do I get it from. Would a dilute solution of PVA (which I already have) do the same thing? By the way I have quick drying marble tile adhesive. Mike

Don't use PVA there are several reasons why not, have a search of this forum and you should find it.

Any supplier of BAl adhesives/grouts will have APD, Topps Tiles is the most widely spread. BUT see what it says on the back of your adhesive as each maker has their own prefered primer.

I have to admit that the difference between the DIY retail store readymix tile cement in tubs and BAL is quite astounding. I made the switch some time ago and have never looked back.

BAL is quite astounding

very true an will be back in the new year spreading that stuff about ...lol

im boxing in a concealed cistern, i had planned to use chip board or ply, then wall tile on top.

From what i read hear i would be better off using flexible adhesive in case the wall flexes behind the wall hung pan ?

What about the grout can you get flexible grout ?

Cheers
