Hi,

I’ve had some carpets fitted today and wondered if I’m being overly critical but surely this can’t be acceptable?

pretty much every angled stair tread doesn’t fit properly with some big gaps at the sides, one of which is pretty much hanging off. Also the bottom tread has been nailed through - not sure if this is typical practice fitting?

also the main bedroom has one long join right across the room which wasn’t expected or agreed on when I checked this when I bought the carpet.

Am I being over the top in asking for a replacement on this and the carpet to be re-fitted?

Really appreciate any guidance.

I am not a carpet fitter. The carpet in the bedroom with the join would seem to have been measured incorrectly and I would not accept that. You should have been informed prior to fitting that the room would have a joint in the carpet.

My old man use to be a carpet fitter many a year back he's laid carpet throughout my house I did the underlay and gripper he did the cutting, stretching, door trims etc so I know enough.

The stairs are real bad, shocking cutting. The bottom step is always a faff and may require gluing, nailing or stapling but it could look better.

The bedroom did you supply the carpet big enough to fit the room? If so they've buggered up somewhere and I'd want it replacing without a doubt.

Along with at minimum the stair treads / risers they've cut short if not the whole run.

mite the carpet shop who have supplied the carpet so should have been long enough. There’s a join in the alcove which I was expecting as the room is wider than the roll but the length was never an issue.

I am no carpet fitter, but I made a better job that that on my hall, stairs and landing carpet. Tell the shop to try again, but harder, at their entire cost. I couldn't get a carpet fitter last year to fit it within a reasonable time frame.

That is shocking . Didn’t they vacuum it as well. The bullnose is a joke. A joint can be needed if the room is more then 5m wide. But if done correct you shouldn’t see it much.

this is the problem with the carpet trade. To many slash and dash cheap fitters. I’ve been through 6 over the last few years and now have one of the best fitters in the north west.

Can I ask you what rooms you had done and what you paid a m2.

definately not hoovered… all of the offcuts and underlay is just strewn all over and off cuts of carpet grippers left lying around as well.

there is a joint on the width which I knew was going to be there and will be covered with furniture, but the long one across the room shouldn’t be. I think they’ve measured correctly in the first place.

The seam you were not expecting may well be a pole mark, hard to tell from the photos, the rest of it is definately terrible fitting.
