Is a fault code an MOT failure?

I've got a check break pads message showing on the dashboard. I had it checked and the garage said it was a fault with the loom. They would delete it for £40 or leave it if I wasn't bothered. I'd assumed it wasn't a problem but wonder now if an MOT tester would fail it for that?

I had a Juke, the Engine management light was on when it went in for its MoT.

It was a Deisel and the DPFilter was a right Sod.

Went to pick the car up expecting to have to pay for the DPF to be sorted, but??

The car Passed because, when tested the "fault" was not in the drive chain, brakes or indeed anywhere, the code number [or what ever the scanners said] could not identify the fault or attribute the fault to any specific cause.

Wish my garage could sort my engine management warning light out.

You can get odb scanners for about £16 that should be able to reset it.

Just an error message on the display but no engine management light isn't an mot failure

I've got an ok one. Bit dearer than £16 but it won't switch this brake pads light. But probably because it doesn't find it as a fault. That might be because it's a problem with the Loom and not an actual fault with the pads.

No, not a failure. All that matters is that you have adequate thickness of pad. The sensor is just a loop of wire in the pad, when the wire wears through, the light comes on. You can bypass the warning by simply shorting the sensor out.

Brake pad wear indicator has nowt to do with the engine management. It's a supplementary warning and quite a basic system, easily bypassed.
