Hi
I wanted advice on whether I have installed this fan incorrectly or whether it may be faulty.

The fan I replaced (different make model) was getting rather noisy and worked reasonably well but was still leaving some moisture in the bathroom.

It's ceiling fitted. The wiring in the ceiling ends in a connector block. From that block the previous fan had a short length of cabling that had three thin wires, brown / black / blue hard wired in to the connector block in the fan. I snipped these at the block end then connected these to the block in the new fan.

On the slower speed it's completely useless and even on the faster speed it still leaves way more moisture in the bathroom than the previous fan.

Not a scientific test I know but the old fan would easily hold a sheet of toilet tissue the new fan won't.

Also I don't think the timer function is working.

Any help appreciated

Thanks

That extractor is one of those 'energy saving' affairs.
The reason it saves energy is because it contains a feeble motor which can't move the required volume of air.

The energy saving piece: https://www.screwfix.com/p/vent-axi...oom-extractor-fan-with-timer-white-240v/260hv
54m³/hr

Another cheapo fan: https://www.screwfix.com/p/manrose-xf100t-15w-bathroom-extractor-fan-with-timer-white-240v/15927
85m³/hr

If there is an accessible space above the bathroom ceiling, an inline fan such as https://www.screwfix.com/p/manrose-mf100t-100mm-axial-inline-extractor-fan-with-timer-240v/719gy will be far more effective.

Thanks for you prompt reply
So obviously my assumption that if I pay more I get a better product proved to be false.
I'm puzzled as to how it can have so many good reviews? So it's just a case of it not moving enough air and not that it could be faulty.

The more powerful Manrose fan you recommended, will I be able to use the existing wiring as described in my original post?

It says in the description it's wall mounted. Is it OK to ceiling mount it?

Also I read that to get the timer to work it sometimes has to be wired a certain way.

How is that?

Thanks
