How to raise a fence on neighbours side.

I’ll attach a few photos at the end.
Morning all

We have a four foot fence on the left hand side of our garden.
Does anyone have any clever ideas on how to raise it two feet to afford us more privacy?

The fence belongs to the neighbour - although I put it in before they moved in.
Replacing it is not an option. So was looking for modern options to attach something to it that won’t look out of place.

Is this your fence on the deeds ? If not the new people in may put a 6 foot fence if asked nicely.

Always worth a try before you put one up, if it's their side to fence they could take yours down and put up their own.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear. The fence is not going to be changed - I won’t bore you with the exact reasons why. Just know that it’s not going. I want to add to it!

I’m thinking along the lines of a modern trellis if such a thing exists or a faux hedge row.

I just thought some on here may have done or seen something similar.

2 answers from me...

No1 - change the panels for 1.8m/6ft ones. If that doesn't wash then

No2 - put a new fence in on your side to the height you desire leaving the existing one there.

To be clear, it doesn’t matter if the fence is yours/ paid for by you/ put up by you physically.
If it is on your neighbours land, it is theirs.
If it is on your land, you can raise it.

they might agree to allow you to modify or fix to it, they might not.

if not, add your own fence on your side. Given the original fence, you could raise up posts and a small panel/trellis with nothing under the area screened by the original

Tread Carefully , I foresee an expensive Neighbour Dispute looming .

Remember this information would have to be disclosed if you ever anticipate selling your property

Can you expand on this? How does it belong to them? Did you gift to them explicitly or are you assuming that it has become theirs due to some reasons?
I think that if you erected it, then you own it, unless you have taken some specific action to the contrary.

If you put it in then it is your fence to do with as you please.
You can ignore anything that the deeds may have said or old customs about the left fence being your responsibility etc.
You paid for it, it's yours.
Your neighbour cannot prove anything otherwise as the boundary is an imaginary zero width line that can be +/- several inches.

If you paid for the fence originally do you still have proof that the neighbour agreed to this situation and that the Fence remains your property, if not it is their property if the fence is on their boundary line , , if you alter the fencing in any way they can sue for damage to property
Tread carefully this could work out very expensive .

A boundary separates two properties, it can't be "their" boundary.

Agree it's almost certainly your fence, even if it's an inch on their land, otherwise if you park on someone's drive the car belongs to them.
However whether it's worth arguing the legalities is another thing.
We have the opposite situation, the neighbours put in a fence because they wanted an identical fence all round their garden, but now they keep telling us it's our fence when clearly it isn't. We think it's ugly but it matches the rest of theirs, so we can't really rip it down but they seem to expect us to maintain it.
