The other day my expansion vessel burst (pin hole) and got it replaced via home insurance. The old one was a Reflex NG 12 and replaced with a HVB12C, now upon Googling the new one, it states "Potability NO". Should I be concerned about this?
The other expansion vessel is red which is for heating which is fine.
The old EV was about 18 months old as that was replaced when we moved into the house due to water escaping through the tundish and I don't think that was potable either (both "potable" EV are grey"

Thanks.

Materials used internally aren't potable water safe. EV is max rated what the EV should actually be pre-charged to under normal working conditions for the unvented system, so it's not going to last long, if they have actually charged it correctly. Was the engineer even qualified? I'd be checking that too. What size is your unvented cylinder?

Added to that, the old one would probably have still been under warranty and just needed re-charged rather than replaced.

As suggested, get them back and get it changed.

Got a reply from the company that fitted it. They only replace like for like, and since it was grey originally they replaced it with grey (even though I think it was the wrong EV in the 1st place). The options they gave were either get a hold of my insurance company again but looking at the t&C of the policy they don't replace EV or get an independant company out to look at it.

The faulty one (I still have it) is rusted in the inside of the screwed thread so i'm assuming that caused the pin hole. I will bet someone out once I get paid but the question I have is does your drinking water come via the EV?

Call then back and tell them they're wrong.

Red vessels are specifically for CH, Blue and White are specifically for Potable water .... Grey can be both. They have to spec the vessel and ensure it's for potable water and that it can take the pressure required and aren't poisoning anyone. They have installed an expansion vessel that isn't fit for purpose and as unvented cylinders and their safety devices are regulated, whoever fitted it, if they were even qualified, are basically breaking the law by leaving it that way. Regardless of what is covered or what was there before.
