One of my locals is a small cider house where the landlady has run it for over 20 years. Very old school. She does a cracking Sunday roast - a real plate full for £9. Couple of Tributes or Thatchers Gold (warmer weather) to go with it makes for a perfect Sunday lunchtime/afternoon. Dogs yes - sprogs no. I always earn my roast by cycling over the downs to get there.

Why do people want to take dogs to a pub ?

To appear to the Mrs that they're just out 'walking the dog'.

Dogs in pubs - no problem. It's people's bored, uncontrolled sprogs that should be banned from all licenced premises. Other countries don't allow or encourage it. Those that do like France seem to have parents who make their kids sit at the table and not run around screaming and generally being a pain. Seen and not heard is fine. Would be the first to admit I'm not child-friendly.

One pub I use just got a black and white rescue cat. Pub cat is the best of all worlds - quiet, friendly, well behaved. Purrfect company when you just want to be undisturbed with your pint and paper.

Any muslim country
Had a great time in Azerbaijan a few years ago, although a muslim country it was very western like, the women dressed how they liked and all the locals liked the pub life, got to say that it was also one of the safest places we've been to, met an ex pat who has lived there for 12 years working in the oil industry and he said he wouldn't move back to Britain and that Baku was the safest place he'd been to.
