Hi all,

I am externally insulating the extension I'm building. Most will be rendered, but 1 wall will be clad in some variant of cement cladding. I am quite unsure what to do behind the cladding though , to protect the insulation board from the weather.

What is the done thing please? Is there a variant of Tyvek (in black) that is fixed somehow to it? Or something completely different.....

Thanks

Most mineral cladding requires an air-gap behind so you will need to batten.

And what should be done to protect the insulation boards from the elements? I thought of something like Tyvec, but even with battening I have a feeling it will flap in the wind....

I have seen houses insulated in Switzerland. They fixed plastic foam boards to the houses, then cement boards with stainless screws, then some kind of thin render or thick paint rollered on. The ground floor (that people might bump into) had a more solid cladding of brick or stone slips.

No air gap that I could see.
