In-line bathroom extractor fan 2 vents

Hey

Our wall mount extractor fan is really poor, even with the window open - I’ve looked and seen the inline ones are both more powerful and move the noise out of the room so seems a win win.

I would put a vent directly over the bath / shower as the main source of steam - but I was wondering if I could put an additional vent on the other side of the room too connected to the same fan to pick up anything else? Would this in theory work / be normal / good practice?

It can be done. Might be difficult to balance the suction between the two. If the extractor is furthest from the point of entry (gap under the door) it will draw steam and odours towards it

IMO Manrose is a poor brand

Envirovent or Soler & Palau (same company) are superior

Great thanks will look at them brands you suggest.

The bath is furthest from the door which of course is the main source of the steam - I believe some of the vents you can adjust the flow rate so I’d likely need that one open more than the other one which am hoping would just catch everything else.

To be honest it’s not a huge bathroom maybe I just start with one above the bath and see how it goes but am happy to know it can be done!

The best clearance of steam is achieved by 'crossflow'. Extract at one end nearest the source, with fresh air entering from the far end of the room. If the far end is a door, it works best with a gap under the door.

There is a gap under the door - enough to see light under anyway!

The bath / shower is right up against the window which we do also open when in use but we still get awful moisture on all the walls to the point where it’s dripping off things so the fan was my next step to try and improve .

We currently have a vent axa Svara smart one - it’s never been great at clearing the room to be fair and the humidity sensor no longer works so I thought will bite the bullet with a more powerful inline one.

All our lights are Hue too so going to take some work with probably a wifi controlled Shelly and a humidity sensor connected into home assistant or something to make them all work together!
 
I am unimpressed with humidity sensors on bathroom fans.

I find the simplest and most effective is the lightswitch, with a timed run-on in the fan.
 
The inline fans you are looking at shift about nominal 240 cu.m air per hour which is usually enough for showers, starting before you turn on the shower and with a timer afterwards. Basic builders fans are usually about 80 cu.m/hr which is adequate for a WC but not a steamy bathroom.

It also helps if the bathroom walls are warm. I saw a big improvement after getting CWI. It's possible to insulate solid walls before tiling, but not so easy. Of course the window should be double glazed.

Great thanks again - I could look at a more powerful one if redoing it all but as said the room is hardly large - is it a case of you can over power it and not gain much or is it always the more powerful the better with these things?
 
I think the 240 or 250 cu.m/hr will be fine.

I believe the Svara goes up to 108 so you will have more than double.
