hello again :(

washer dryer making a noise like jet engine during spin cycle

checked drum when empty bearing(s) noisy/rumbling, safe to use ?

How many hours to change bearings ?

DIY / get an independent repairer to fit, still under 5 years parts only

warranty or time for a new one ?

TIA

as an ex hp engineer we would ahve had 45 minutes to do the job, but it would have taken longer.

I would get a new m/c since hp gave me a quote and i got a new washing only m/c for £10 less than the sum of the parts i wanted chaged (same as whati would have changed if i was working for hp)

The cost is main thing I'd be worried about, you might find that you can buy a new machine for what a hoover engineer would charge you, even with the parts free (under warranty). Check in your local press and see if you can get a local agent to give you a sensible fixed price for the repair, if it's only bearings but please understand that if it needs a drum and shaft the price will rocket. Bearings and seal kits start at around £12-00 from a spares dealer, so taking that the person knows what they are doing allow around an hour and a half you could expect a set of bearings fitted for around £70-00

The Hoover is one of the worst machines for changing bearings as you have to virtually dismantle the whole machine to lift the outer drum out the top. Not an easy one to tackle on a DIY basis.

hoover quote £90 approx engineer charge to fix bearings/drum

will he fix more than one fault ?

this hotpoint-wd860g

or smeg £634 with 5 year parts & labour

wdf16bax

or meile wt2670 £850 10year parts & labour

wt2670w

5 parts & labour for hotpoint £280 extra !

which is best/easier to repair ?

option 1

get £90 repair then get hotpoint

option 2

get hotpoint plus £280 5 yr parts & labour

option 3

any of above or other

TIA

I would think the Hoover technician will do whatever is neded to get the machine back to full working order for the quoted price. I would get it done but start saving some pennies to get a new Bosch machine in a couple of years time.
