Hey folks,

Wondered if could have some more advice from your good selves please?

Pictured is my neighbours brick pillar, I need to speak to them as it's dangerous and being held up by my tree.

My DIY skills don't extend to rebuilding it brick by brick, but I have seen suggestions where sticks like **** or similar have been used to repair sections of masonry such as this.

Would this be feasible or I could just offer to take it down for him? Trying to be neighbourly but ultimately I just want it making safe.

Cheers

Larry

You can't repair that, it needs rebuilding or demolishing. It's dangerous, especially if you have children - if your neighbour isn't dealing with it and you don't want to do it for him I believe your local council have powers to intervene.

Thanks folks, I don't mind a small amount of time making it safe with a sledgehammer or mallet and chisel. Just want it making safe, it's been like that for far too long has seen some right storms and gales and the tree is actually beginning to grow round it.

Appreciate the advice, will speak to him and try the council if no joy.

Cheers

best to avoid the council iff you can as some decent people can be overwhelmed by what they dont understand so a helpful non-confrontational way may bring dividends
have you asked iff you can safely move the pillar to the ground as you are worried about both yours and theres safety if it falls ??

I'm going to speak to them soon, framing it as would you like me to help by...

Looks like the most I can offer is to take it down safely so will go with that.

Agreed there is no need to involve council as a starter for ten. I expect they won't mind the offer.

Excellent communication is the key people can fall out when no one has done anything wrong ---- but thats because no one has expressed there thought on a subject are different so a problem actually exists so action is needed
