Hilarious Hash ups Pics - Terrible Tiling And Door Hanging

youre not wrong. i work on the basis of showing people the quality of work i do and have plenty of pics on the website. i always provide them with a list of bona fide references, but very few people ever bother to check them, which really does amaze me.

i never cease to be amazed by some of the crap workmanship or just plain lazy/greedy/ignorant workmanship i see. Ive gone into gardens, where so called professionals have put fences in with no concrete whatsoever, overlapped panels to avoid cutting them down to size, used old tarpaulin as weed suppresant, let alone never getting a spirit level out of the van! Does make my blood boil

That reminds me, the same thing happened in our garden. Infact, the door guy works with someone else who did our fence and he didn't use any concrete either. He just put the posts directly into bare soil :eek:. I used to feel like a cowboy magnet :cry:.

Well, they certainly get paid enough for doing these sorts of jobs. I know someone who was paid £200 and odd just for painting a room without skirting :eek:.
 
wouldn't it be nice if you could wander through a tradesmans own house before letting him loose in yours!!

Goddamn! that tiling really is horrendus! My first attempt at tilling looked a hell of a lot better than that!

As for the doors, methinks he left the chisle out of the 'hammer-chisle-door' equation!! :LOL:

I've been thinking about something everytime I go into my bathroom and I've been thinking that there is no way he can tile. Ok, I forgive him for the walls being uneven (thorough planning and the necessary preparation work could have rectified this and given him an nice even surface to work on). However, when he runs into problems, he will tile how a brick layer lays bricks, with staggered joints (I actually forgot to show this). It's obvious he doesn't understand where to even stick his first tile because there is a very narrow course just below the window sill.

Yep, it's attrocious I must say and I'd really love to tell his brother (he comes to our house), but I wouldn't want to embarrass him :(.

It does make you feel better about any minor inconsistencies in your own DIY work when you see how bad some peoples situations are. :D

I was thinking the same thing! If this guy reckons he's a pro, I am seriously considering going into the handyman/tilling buisness! :eek:
 
The tiling in my mother in laws bathroom was absolutely abysmal,worst ive ever seen,i said nothing for quite a long time till eventually i just had to ask her where the tiler left his guide dog while he was doing the tiling.

Turns out it was her brother who did it!!!!

Weve put it right now.

My mum can't remember exactly, but she thinks she paid 'Disaster Dave' (the terrible tiler :D) around £230 and Kowboy Ken (the dodgy door hanger :D) around £150.

That tiling is the worst i've seen i think. one of your comments caught my interest though - you mentioned plying the walls? why would you want to ply the walls before you tile? plasterboard yes, ply - hell no!

Well, I'm tiling at the moment and it's turned out a lot better than his tiling. You won't find any ridiculous mistakes in my work :p. I admit though that I've made a couple of mistakes (using broken spirit level which I wasn't aware of at the time, put excess adhesive on), but then again, I'm not a professional and would no way take on any work unless I was really good and skilled.

Only if the walls are uneven, otherwise there isn't really a need. You usually put 2"X2" battens up and attach the sheets of ply (18mm) (or you can use chipboard (18mm)) to that with gap centres 407mm wide and 610mm high between each batten. I think some people prefer to do this even if the wall is level to make it easier. I think it makes more sense, but it would take a bit of the room away though.

lol we still keep talking about it even to this day when we are stood in the bathroom. I just find it hillariously disasterous lol.
