My Ferroli 77F boiler (about 10 years old)doesnt sound too healthy. It makes a loud hammering noise when the HW is turned off at the tap.
Also, I have to top up the system water about twice a day, AND the pilot light keeps going out about 3 times a day.

Should I Bleed, descale and replace the PRV or should I start looking for a new one. Any advice?
Cheers

Sounds like boiler going to overheat and pilot light thermocouple is in series with the o/heat stat.

Sounds as though it is possibly scaled up, boiler heats up, overpressurises due to excess heat then prv does its job and releases pressure. Could be fixed by local corgi, get a quote first then decide if its worth it.

I think that model will be well over 10 years old!

If you have been topping up boiler twice a day it will be well clogged up with oxides by now.

Its unlikely to be worth repairing such an old boiler ( 14 y.o. ? )

Hmmmm, yeah, I had a sneaky suspicion that might be the case, any recommendations on any good deals??
British Gas are offering £250 for my old hunk of poo AND they could give and install a new shower for free!!!
Sounds decidedly dodgy to me! what do you think?

£250 'off' what? If it's BG's usual attempt at a competitive price, get some more estimates from other installers!

Why do people always go to BG? Don't belive all their 'offers'! Only compare final quoted prices ;)
