Alpha boiler frequently no H/W

If it's the diaphragm, you can get to it easily after removing the pump - or is it just its head?

Probably whole pump, but I've never gone at it that way and I'd have to be stood in front of a boiler to know.

I either remove whole DV from front which is relatively easy, or if plenty of space to the left of the boiler I remove the gas valve for ease of operation.

To just do water section pump out would make it easier, but then you'd have top drain boiler anyway so might aswell remove whole DV 6 of one 1/2 dozen.

When I said above about fibre washers OP I didn't mean the little red ones used for tap connectors, I meant proper boiler ones I get mine from Antares you wouldn't be able to, will have to probably buy the Alpha kit of all seals and washers for that boiler about £27 plus vat, quite expensive.

I spoke to the guy that installed it (friend's father-in-law), he doesn't do boiler repairs but he tells me that its not a big job.

It never is a big job if someone else is going to do it!

You might ask him why he wont do it for you if its "not a big job" ?

Tony

Yes we all had a good laugh at that. Our customers or builders that just want us to do the "little" plumbing bits of a job are always very quick to point out to us how easy or small a job it is. We know better.

You my friend are taking on a quite enormous task for a novice. I could do it in 15 minutes on that boiler, there are some boilers where it can be done in 2 minutes. What takes me 15 minutes would probably take you 2 hours. What takes me 2 minutes will take you 1/2 hour.

The one you are about to attempt, you might fail completely. I have failed completely and had to fit whole new manifold aswell as diverter valve. Not failed because of my ineptitude, failed because of the level of decay in that particular instance.

Good freakin luck. I hope it's an easy one for you.

Your plumber "just a little job" mate had better stick to banging them up on the wall if that's his assessment of the situation.

Well I can bleed brakes. Change calipers and pads. Change discs. Change engine oil. Change transmission oil. Change coolant. Repair fuel lines. Change engine mounts. Replace shocks. Replace bushings. Repair an injection pump.

I've plumbed in my radiators and wired a fair chunk of my house. I've installed 2 fireplaces (one gas one coal), refurbished my antique windows, reinforced a timber floor and this year I'll be replacing a flat roof with a pitch roof. I completely refurbished my bathroom, even replaced the floorboards.

Although I'm an amateur when it comes to boilers, I have plenty of common sense. :)

My mate won't get involved because frankly he isn't interested in boiler repairs, and I haven't asked him.
