May I remind you all AGAIN! Please do not reply to "spam posts"
Surely the general discussion forum is not the place for questioning members' actions.

If something has occurred that you disagree with please contact admin directly at [email protected] :D

In rommy's defence, he is quite a new user (but has made himself well known already!) so therefore may not have known of the "no replying to spam posts" rule.

I agree with Softus. If there is something going on that the mods aren't happy about they should complain to the e-mail address that he has posted.

Hi gcol.

The act of a moderator commenting on, and within, posts, isn't stated within any published set of rules that I've seen - it's something that you learn about only by observation, and/or by being subjected to that act.

Since moderators are empowered to summarily edit and delete posts, and to send an Email to the author of a post than breaks a rule, then there's no justification for a moderator making a comment within a post, and especially little point for passing judgment when doing so.

Alternatively, if making a comment is the right to do, then I would suggest that it should be done consistently, i.e. in every time. However, the situation we have is that any moderator can pick and choose which posts he/she comments on, replies to, edits, deletes, or moves.

My post wasn't intended (perhaps unusually) to create an argument, or to imply that anyone should be humble; it was just pointing out that if one rule is reasonable when there's a grievance against a moderator, then it's logical to apply the same rule in similar circumstances, i.e. when the grievance is against a member.

PS No - not that kind of member. ;)

I stand corrected - please see below.

I stand corrected - in that case it would seem appropriate to report the incident to admin, who has access to everyone's Email address.

For reasons I will not go into, that option is not feasible.

The rules are there for everyone to read. If a poster chooses not to, that is not our (moderators /admin) fault

Thanks for replying in a separate post Lynda - it makes things much easier.

I'm sticking my neck out a bit here, but it seems to me that it's about time that Admin either took a more active role in the site, or delegated some of his/her responsibility to one or more moderators.

If I were a moderator I'd be very frustrated by the need to deal with the plethora of difficult forum members and rule-infringing (and borderline) posts, and yet having my hands tied by a limited range of ways of acting upon that need.

Emailing admin feels pointless because [usually] no response is forthcoming, hence suggesting that a complaining member should do so, whilst appearing to helpful, isn't a practical solution. And yet there's no other option.

It's a funny old world...

As moderators we can only use the tools we are given / have available.
