I'm sure I posted a link to some free stanley blades, but the post seems to have gone.

I hope one of the Mods is not busy ordering them all for themselves?

Because that site is American.

The only Stanley UK based site is for the FatMax XL products.

Stanley are trying to push the FatMax XL brand name as the 'Stanley' brand has lost market share in recent years, and they want to promote the Fatmax XL as the choice of trades people.

They are only giving 5000 away, they will be getting a lot of data for there mailshots etc.

Good marketing ploy

LOL its gone again.

Can someone explain why the link keeps being removed?

And would it not be better to remove the text from the post and not the whole post without any indication that it has been removed, so that readers can at least follow the thread and realise that posts have been removed and not see some random replies to posts which are no longer there?

A bit of common sense please

see forum rule 12

Lynda..accept rule 12..BUT whats wrong with what 'woody' is asking?

The interpretation of rule 12 is wrong, and it does not apply.

The link was not advertising, but was a free [manufacturers] offer which members could take up, AND THEN make further purchases from any of this sites sponsers. It would have taken no business away from any sponsers.

I see loads of links on this site to other commercial/retail sites which contravene rule 12.

What is the difference to the link to the main Stanley site above, so that one Stanley site can remain, but another link to a Stanley site gets removed? They both mention the same tools!

Your post had a link to a manufacturers website who is offering a free product, with the idea that you will then either buy another product or to receive the free product you give them information about your self.

Whilst it is not direct advertising it is still advertising. (Something they have not paid for.)

Alternatively you could look at it this way.

Let us look at a fictitious post that was similar to yours.

Want to get free utility knife blades, I just did, then visit amadeupsitedotcom.

Now let us look at fictitious “spam” post

Buy your pharmaceuticals here at anothermadeupsitedotcom

Both posts encourage the reader to visit another site from which information will be gained in order to send unsolicited information. Your post just has utility knife blades as “bait”

Officially I should have listed your post as “spam” If I had done so, there is a good chance that you would have been automatically banned. Rule 12 is the nearest rule I could direct you to, since spam posters do not get a 2nd chance.

Also if I had of ignored your link it would be saying to any reader “advertise your product for free its ok” Which it is not.

hang on. i thought new labour had banned all sharp objects, in the intrest of public safety.? i handed all my blades in at the last amnesty.

ffs guys, get with the times. ...

Yeah! LOL

I could counter each point, but its pointless. The analogy cited is wrong, and in different context and only used to support the argument.

It is a genuine offer from which forum members can take advantage, and is of no detriment to themselves or this site.

Obviously Stanley are not to be trusted and their privacy opt-out policy is a sham.

Anyway myself and mrs woody, had a few packs each and check this out - the blades are quite expensive, and it seems we have had over £50 worth of blades.

I'm happy
