How do increase the water preesure in the central heating heating system. I understand that i have to turn a valve with a srewdriver but which valve is it. I have combi Valiant boiler about 6 years old.

A picture of what one looks like would be handy.... if not then a description and location of it hopefully should suffice.
Thanx

i cant see one.

the bolier is actually around 8-10 yeards old.

Having just read previous posts i think it might have happened cos i let out some air in the radiators..so no leak.

See if you can trace the incoming cold water supply to your boiler. At some point close to your boiler, from your cold water supply, can you see a valve with a screwdriver type slot in it.

The slot tells you wether the valve is open or closed. If the slot runs the same way as your piping it will be open, if the slot runs across your piping it will be closed, imagine it like a little gate.

Once you have found it, turn it very slowly until you hear water entering your system, turn it back to its original position once your pressure gauge reads 1.5 bar.

I found the pressure valve. it was a small back thing next to ahose pipe looking thing.

I've increased the preesaure to between 1 and 1.5 however the central heating is still NOT working. I've tried relighting the flam with relight flame button but nothing?

what can be the problem now?

oh just to let you know the hot water is working fine...its just the central heating not working!!

can I assume you have an Ecomax or Turbomax of some description, with the filling loop built in just under the front right corner as you look at it?

Does your hot water work or is the boiler dead?

The flame relight button you mention is probably the reset button. If this has operated there should also be a fault code displayed on the digital display. What is it?

Press and hold reset for about 3 secs then see if boiler starts, assuming power is on and ch is calling for heat or hot tap running.

Why did it lose pressure in first place?

its not an ecomax or a turbomax i dont think. its pretty old about 8 years.

The hot water does work.

There is no digital display on the boiler so there cannot be a fault message.

I think i may have lost pressure cos i took air out of the radiators.

hope that helps.

its about 8-10 years ..not much older than that.

Any ideas on the problem ...better still the solution?

Have you checked the basics that there is a call for ch from the programmer and room thermostat? Check to see where you have 240v going to if there is a call.

That the external controls are actually asking the ch to come on, therefore supply 240v to the ch side(switched live) of the boiler.

By external control if you mean whether i have switched the central heating switch on then yes i have done that.

...if thats not what you mean i'm still lost?

thnks

Does it have 2 square gauges on the right hand side (pressure and temperature). If so you may have trapped air in the boiler - this could stop the heating working (I assume the timeclock/room thermostat are on).
