Clio cam belt has had it

Hi
my Clio's cam belt has had it according to the RAC guy. just wondering (i know it needs to be looked at) what it might cost me to get it done maximum because its a P reg and if its going to cost me too much I might as well scrap it, any rough ideas

i presume its a 1.2 or 1.4 which if it is, it's not a major big job and i have seen prices roughly £60-90 to have it done, just be thankful u don't have a clio 16v like mine which is a 6 hour £500 job

yes its a 1.2 paris Clio

the Rac guy said (about cost) it depends on whether it has damaged the engine

it already cost me £100 to tow it from Stansted to Wandsworth (rac wanted £200)

Well in that case it could cost you hundreds or even a grand or so, depends what if any damage has been done to the valves/pistons etc if any, you mechanic will only know after he's had a look.

oh right didnt realise you meant it had actually broken totally, pick up a whole engine from a breakers, prob cheaper

Isn't there a way to see if the engine is damaged before getting the cam belt done?
That way i can decide whether to get it done or not

Although that will only let you see physical scrapes etc, a bent valve or hairline crack in a piston may not show up. Its possible the engine sustained no damage at all so it may be worth just getting the cambelt done and hoping for the best, alternatively he’ll have to whip the head off and take a look. It may just need a new valve or two, did it make any banging noises or just stop dead, were you driving along or were you stationary when it went?

I was doing about 70 on motorway and all of a sudden started making this rattling noise, so had to pull over as the engine went off

any P reg is only wort £4-5oo max

I had a P reg 2 owner astra....full serv history.......head gasket went .....scrapped

had the `kin thing for years...we were owners no. 2
