lintels

I am planning a 2 storey timber frame extension and would like to know what type of lintel to put above 1800mm and 1200mm windows.
I have been told conflicting information about using class C concrete lintels.
Any advice please.

There is no reason (engineering) why you can't use a wooden lintle and plaster over it for fire protection. It will survive better than a steel and possibly a concrete one in a fire. It's just BC don't understand much.

My house is 130 years old and has wooden lintels, and they are only softwood.

Concrete lintels in a timber framed house. Mad. Ignore any advice from whoever suggested that.
