Madeleine

I know I am in the minority here, but I dont think these people should be slaughtered for leaving her alone. They are naive, yes, but not negligent. That girl was taken by a calculated abductor. Any venom we had should be 100% directed at this person.

There are still some parts of the world were these things are very very rare you know? In the local cafe, I overheard some lard-arsed parents bleating the same thing " I'd never risk my kids lives " complete with fag in the hand whilst feeding the baby a packet of Monster Munch. Kids have got more of a chance of being killed by a hit and run illegal immigrant driver than being snatched from there home - and that is even in this **** hole of a country - let alone a country with a few more standards. We shouldn't judge other nations by our declining standards. The Portugese police are not used to dealing with these kind of incidents - where as we have a national full time response unit. What does that tell you about our country?? We have even had to send over our own experts to help!! I am suprised we had any spare. When we went on holiday, people left there children asleep in the cars parked on the drive. It seemed so normal, that I am not suprised that the girls parents got caught up in the whole 'safe environment' thing.

Call me liberal, but just imagine for one minute that the child was snatched by a mentally ill or grieving mother with PND who has just lost a child through stillbirth or sids or whatever.

That person is not in possession of her right mind. There are two victims, if you like.

I await being shot down with relish!

its a horrid thing to say spark but I hope you are right, cos at least maddy would be cherished

Tim I agree whole heartedly they can only be an IT

get em out the gene pool I say

Why is it a horrid thing to say?

it's great to see all this exposure about her but what about the others you never hear about that go missing around the world, this sort of media frenzy should happen all the time.

What i can't understand that if it was my kid that was missing i would not be able to sleep properly, eat properly and i would burst into tears everytime someone mentions their name?I would'nt go for a nice walk on the beach for the tv cameras i would be knocking on every door asking questions myself.some people must react differently to trauma then others but stills seems a bit fishy

My late wife Maria was a lil fragile after we lost our baby daughter Lucy RIP.....
the doc got her on anti depressants at the time an I an our families helped her get through it ...
I had to remain the strong brave one .......an caring for my heartbroken devastated quite ill wife...
So I can understand ....about a grieving mother with PND

after supporting my wife I just took more to the drink ....when able ...

I dont understand it . . . everyone knows she's missing, and if anyone knew anything, they would have come forward by now. So why, on the advert screen in the post office at work, was there an appeal for info today?

I just dont get it, cant they lay off the media coverage now? I know she's still missing and her parents must be very worried, but probably everyone on the planet with any form of outside link / communication must now know about it.

How much are the news companies spending flying reporters to the resort and on the satellite links etc? Its going too far, IMO. And the people sending good wishes / etc to the parents on that website - why? Do they really think the McCanns are going to read all the millions of messages?

I know this sounds harsh, but please, update me when there's something to update me with! I feel for the family, I really do, but I'm fed up of hearing about it.

I have, and I would let him out of my sight here, yet alone abroard.

I don't know if this applies for everyone or just me btw, but when I never had any kids and you heard stories like this you/I didn't give it a second though ( apart from the quick comment like " I hope she alright " ) but when you have kids of your own it seems to rip through your chest and pull your heart out. :(

You're not along, I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to my son, you find yourself almost putting yourself in the parent's shoes in cases like this. I find the child abuse stuff the hardest to deal with, espeically when it's the parents doing it, I look at my boy and couldn't imagine hurting a hair on his head.

Youd be surprised that some people do miss all the coverage. Some of it is self perpetuating by the media until the next big story comes. Some of it is delibretly done by the police (certainly over here) in the hope that it may bring a new witness forward or compell someone who knows something to have a change of heart and come forward. Some of it is instigated by the parents as they feel its all they can do. On the sarah payne case i remeber talking to a reporter from sky. He said he couldnt believe the energy of her mother and that was the only reason that the media kept going with the story as she called a press confrence virtually every day. He said they would have droped it far down the list after a shorter period of time.
