I have a Vaillant combi feeding radiators with (older) Westherm and (newer) Drayton TRVs.

A problem that has recently made itself apparent (warmer weather, = heating not required in bedrooms), is that I cannot turn off the individual radiators using the TRV's. Flow direction seems correct (ie TRV pipe warms first). Several radiators are affected.

System seems OK otherwise.

Any suggestions welcome.

first thing to do is check that the trv heads are screwed(if screw on types) tightly onto the main bodies, they can loosen and even though they appear to be turned off, still won't press the spindle all the way down, thus not closing off the water flow. there should be a (usually silver) threaded union half way down the complete valve which can be unscrewed to remove/inspect/clean the head . no drain down required. hope it is as simple as that and this helps. failing that, YEP them valves be passing and need replacing.

I think the start and/or end position of the control head is adjustable - yours may be set so that even when fully turned to close, the valve pin (spindle) is not fully pressed down. remove the head and look for adjustment, end stop etc. You test the valve body by pressing the pin down with a metal tool to so if this closes the flow. Originally the valves used to come with a plastic cap that screwed on in place of the head - get one of these to test the valve closure.

Thanks dal5band and DIYasater. Three of the valves were quickly 'fixed' by tightening as you suggested, and two others are suspect, possibly faulty. I'll replace these next time I have to drain down the system.

Thanks again.
