Hi, i'm new to this site. was looking for tips on rendering a raised garden bed wall i've just built out of denseblock. Its not a massive wall (20ft by 1.5ft approx)but a few pointers would be appreciated. The wall will be retaining soil for bedding plants so i was going to render both sides of the walls?! would a 3-1 mix do the job? is using sharpsand going to make my life easier? am i wasting my time!!!? thanx

I have done similar, but i didnt see the need for redndering internally.
Just plenty of black jack for me!
Best to add a waterproofer to the render mix, and definately use plastering sand.
Two coats, scratch then finishing coat.
Wet the surface up a load before applying too,
and even wet up with some PVA, cant do any harm?

(by the way this is a joke)
I think i read somewhere on this forum a few times that PVA shouldnt be used on external rendering?
But thats all just popy cock! I use PVA for everything, its brilliant stuff!
You can even make collages with it like when you were at primary school!

i was told pva only in the second coat, otherwise it creates a barrier so water is not absorbed and therefore doesn't bond.
