I have a Hotpoint CDT Condenser dryer and it does not heat up now instead just blows cold air.

I believe the heating element at the back of the machine has broke and will need replacing. I have seen one for around £40 but want to make sure i can install it.

Do the wires come pre installed and will just plug into an existing sort of socket or will i have to wire it up using a special tool.

Thanks

How did you determine the heater is at fault?
Normally it's thermostats at fault, tripped out due to blockage, blocked condenser or taking the clothes out while still hot and not running the cool down period.

Good question. Im not totally sure. I took the back of and looked at it.
I think there is 4 coiled parts. All seem to be intact but one is more bendy and flimsy if you get what i mean. I could be totally wrong!

I think you'll find the "one shot" thermostat is open circuit.
Check with a meter for continuity through the thermostats.

Excuse my ignorance, but how can i check which is open circuit.

I have a multimeter, with a continuity bleep checker. Just check if i can get a current to pass through it? if not its fubar?

I Have had the problem of cold air before and it turned out to be the stats. But it has gone again, less than 6 months! i guess there is something causing the stats to trip out...

what are the main causes of the stats tripping?

looks like ordering another round of stats..

No special tool, they're just spade connectors and should pull off and push on.
As to the cause of the stats tripping, keep the filter clean and make sure the ducting is free from build up of fluff. Most importantly, when you take the clothes out while they are still hot, close the door, set it to 10 mins and allow it to finish the cool down cycle.

you do not need to change the stats every time. on certain models you can reset them by pushing a needle down the centre hole till you hear a click.
