The walls in my flat are old lathe and plaster. At each side of the chimney breast in the living room the plaster has come away from the lathe causing a bulge at each side. I must admit this was caused by myself thumping on the wall to get my a*****e neighbour to turn his music down at 5am in the morning! Not a good move! Is there any way this problem can be repaired without ripping out the effected area, fitting plasterboard and skimming? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Not that I can think of if there's nothing sound to fill - you'll probably have to cut out the affected area and either fit new lathes or attach some studding to which you can attach plasterboard.

Unless of course you overboard the entire area but that will still need skimming.

Fred.

Thanks Fred, Thought this might be the case. Bit of a pest but nothing else for it i guess. thanks again.

Actually, you got any nice framed prints you can hang over the effected area?

Doesn't fix it, hides it nicely though!

you could soundcoat the entire area then dot and dab skim on top doesnt take long

Dave,

Thinking about it, how big is the patch of damage? It may be possible to fix a piece of expanded metal mesh over the damage and plaster that in.

Regards

Fred
