Loft too small?

I have a 4-bed detached modern (1978) house. My loft is roughly, but no higher than, 2 metres from the floor to the roof apex.

Is it possible to convert it (with a dorma perhaps) at this height? The web sites all seem to state a minimum of 210-215cm. I have not seen any other houses of a similar build with a conversion but would be grateful for your thoughts

As it stands no chance, the time you put a new floor in then beef up your rafters etc.. you'll be bending your head or even back, unless your a wee person :D Anyway you need ay leats 1.9 m head room at top of new stairs.

The only way you could do it, is by lowing the ceilings below, that is if you have pritty high ceiling.

Thanks for the replies. I had a look at another site and it mentioned that a lot of 'modern' houses were not suitable for loft conversions because of the low ceiling height, and moreso because of the layout of the struts and joists; ultimately making any conversion cost prohibitive

I'll probably look to just have a proper loft ladder fitted and maybe have a proper-ish floor put down (no ideas what though) - if nothing else it would make it much better for access and storage etc.

Oh well - I'll just have to convert my garage to get the extra space.

Cheers again
