Hi - am trying to set up undertile heating in my new bathroom and am a bit stuck on installing an Elektra thermostat.

click here for the connectors: http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=675056071&size=l

I don't have installation instructions for this so I'm wondering what needs doing. Hoping one of you lot will know what connects where! Also do I need to hook this up to a RCD as well?

tx!

Can't understand why you dont have instructions. Why dont you look on the Elektra website at http://www.elektra-underfloor-heating.co.uk/downloads-controllers.htm

It took me .00000005 of a second to find it.

Yes yes you must have an RCD. Bathrooms have water in them and you are putting electric wires just where you will be standing with wet feet.
ALSO this is notifiable work so i assume that you have notified your local authority BEFORE work has started, or are you using a registered spark??

oh boy, have just been reading up on all this part P business. The work has started and some electrics have already gone in (shaver socket + shower downlights).

what should I do? can an electrician come in half way through the job and finish up legtimising what's already been done? i don't wanna rip out all the limestone tiles which cost $$$$$$$

Contact the building control officer. If you are honest and straight forward with them you should find them helpful and understanding.

You will have to show you followed the instructions for the laying of the heating system and explain what other work you did and how you did it.

the problem is that those "in the business" have heard of part P and have a rough idea what it entails even if they are not domestic sparkies, but your average Joe on the street will probably never have heard of Part P or any number of the other building regulations..

they realy ought to simplify the numerous regs into specific parts. ( IE electrical, hvac, plumbing etc.. )

for instance the regulations concerning exctract fans in bathrooms is somewhere in part L I think, and the height of sockets and switches etc is in part M and so on..
