I am thinking about buying a lathe, maybe the Clarke CL430 Metal Lathe. Anyone got one of these? Are they any good? I only want it for light use and I don’t want to pay any more.

Is machine mart the best place to get it from?

Thanks for the link but its 250 miles away; it’s a bargain price. Seems to good to be true!
Yes the stand is extra.

Does seem too good to be true, the "paypal account required" does make me wonder - since its being collected anyway then surely cash on collection would be preferable to save paypal fees.

Someones asked why the 'buy it now' disapeared, I've just asked if he accepts cash on collection.

That is by far, the safest way for you.
Only pay a very small amount by Paypal to confirm the buy.
If it is above board, he will be happy with that

Well.........If he is a genuine seller, then he leaves himself wide open if you pay by Paypal, and collect the goods.
Because you could later claim you had not received the goods......
Paypal ONLY accept online signed proof of delivery, in ANY dispute.... ;)

If he is not genuine, who will be at that address you have for collection, once you have paid by Paypal.....

As I said, a clued up seller will much prefer cash on collection.

Chester don't always get the best comments re their customer service, you can get the same lathe from Warco who are better to deal with. Or Engineers Tool Room have it on offer at the moment, I got my mill from them. There is also another seller on the bay who does the chinese lathes for less than Chester etc

BTW the 9x20 is a better lathe than the clarke.

What do you intend to use it for? this is what I get upto with my metal bashing kit

Thanks Jason I will forget the Clarke and decide from the others you have suggested.

What do I intend to use it for? I haven’t got a clue! Its just that I need a new toy to play with.
