you are certainly being done over....

if my place of work ever call me out i get double time rate for all the hours worked and a minimum of 4 hours pay no matter how small the job...... best thing is im not officially on call so if im in the pub i cant go!.....and if i dont want to go i say im in the pub!

you are "being done over"

you have 2 choices

leave

lump it

I know its hobsons choice but unless you all refuse to do it what can you do?

Industry spark you got any places going at your work? sounds a good deal to me

the driving 20 miles to collect a van sounds harsh. why cant you have a van for the week that you are on call?

I'm on call one week in 4, I get an hour a day at my standard rate, no minimum call out but double time on all calls. The van's always at my house and I get paid the same if I'm driving or working so I've no problem in drving down to say Northampton on a Saturday morning. I'm sure I could get a better call out rate but the job itself and my boss are great so I'm happy with my lot. :D

you want to tell them no..

you want time and a half for every hour called out outside of working hours, double time after midnight and sundays, and the van to take home since it will have to be waiting for you at the yard anyway, why can't it be waiting for you at home?

easier said than done if the truth is known.

look at it this way.

Q you have a thorn in your side what do you do?

A pull it out.

as i said unless ALL corncerned say no you are stuffed.

I was once the thorn

do you really want to work for a company that treats you with such contempt and disrespect..

it's the same as crafty's problem the other day.. they expected him to cover the shifts of his sick shop staff himself if he can't find stand ins.. for no extra money or even a thanks..

i changed companies,

but its a fact that some companies really are like that. as you said by mentionig crafty's post (i did read it when he posted it) but crafty's situation is differnt. he was acting manager and getiing managers pay (though he hadnt been paid yet)

one company i workd for 2 weeks holiday only / year, 1 hour for lunch, that must be 12:30 -13:30 noit 1 minute before or after.

one time 3 of us were on a job and one had "special permission" to go home 1 hour early, he had to work through his lunch.

us, the other 2 had to sit and watch we wanted to help but it was our lunch so not allowed to. The other guy understood this, but we had to sit and watch him struggle because quite often the owner would come round to check on what you were doing, and if we were helping.........

it was worse than being at school

what a load of crock ( on their part, not yours... )

they have no right to tell you what you can and can't do during your lunch break.. they don't pay you for it so it's your time..

they can dictate when it starts and when it ends, but not what you do during it..

i know, that why i left.

staff do not stay ther long, the owner could never figure out why

Used to work in a fairly large place 12 years ago.

They did call out.

We got £28 for weeks standby (extra on top of pay)
And also 4 hour at time and a half if called out. (if we were back out within 4 hours there was no extra).
If we were called back out 4 hours and 5 mins after first call another 4 hours at time and a half.

Not bad.

I was very well paid when I was on call for a line in our factory that couldn't stop.
It depends on how desperate they are to have you on call or whether you have some numpty offering to do it for peanuts.

I am my boss, I am on 24/7 call get no stand bye money. If I go out on weekend or night it's £80 charge includes 1st hour, then £20 per 15 mins. Generally get 2 to 3 a week.
