Advice and help please.
I can no longer access my bank website through AOL. When I try to log on I get the message `runtime error-line83'. I am then asked do I wish to debug, I say yes then get a whole load of text in a seperate window on the screen. The PC just hangs and does nothing. I am still able to log out normaly. However I can log in via the big E MSN icon if AOL is open.
This only happens on my bank website, all other regular web sites can be accessed okay. I have recentley installed Norton Personal Firewall.
My ISP is AOL, the PC is a Compaq Presario, Windows XP, 512mb ram, 3000mhz Intel P4.
Thanks in advance.

Ditch AOL and use a proper browser with a proper ISP.

2 things I'd suggest:

1. As softus says, get a proper browser, I suggest Firefox

2. Get rid of anything with Norton on.. Do a search on the web for Norton and you'll find plenty of reasons why.

norton and the other protectors stop a lot of things especially banking it is better to be safe than sorry

never click on email links from "banks" 99% are scams

if you click on the Internet explorer icon you can access the internet without using AOL's interface.it wont solve your problem, bin Norton, its far to aggresive for its own good and who wants a paranoid pc anyway?

Thank you for replies. Very helpfull.
One more question please, what is the difference between Firewall and Ant virus software? Excuse my lack of knowledge but I am a complete PC novice.

Thanks again in advance

Think of a firewall as a not-very-intelligent guard at your front door, who will refuse access to anyone without a written invitation.

Think of anti-virus software as an intelligent guard constantly touring the house, who can recognise every known criminal and also every known type of naughty activity.

Thanks Softus,

I disabled the norton firewall and all is okay.
Can I run a PC without firewall? I have a good antivirus and my ISP provides spyware. They also provide a free firewall but after your input I am a bit wary of installing it.

I have tried contacting the helpline..0870 etc... from the PC store but ended up pulling my hair out after 30 minutes of pressing numbers on the phone.

Your comments much appreciated. Thanks again.

Yes, but it would be ill-advised. You would run the risk of connection attempts to ports on your PC (if you have no router) and possible infection by such a route.

If it were me I'd spend my money on a simply one-port router with firewall.

You can join that club too. :D
