A chinese lady I know wants a new Worcester boiler and from what I can see this is mostly because her neighbour has just had one fitted.

Its difficult to be objective but the impression I get is that currently the Vaillant Ecotec is more popular with installers than the Worcester junior.

Is there anyone with in depth experience of BOTH models who has been able to form any experience of which might be the better choice?

tut tut - how long have we known each other? One I have leanrt over the years is that those who want to keep up with the Jones' will never be satisfied.

I think most of us are 'either or' about these two. Isn't the junior an aluminium he? I wouldn't want to fit one of these again what ever make it was in.

If you are going to have the Worcester buy the German one (CDi), not the cost reduced ijunior. Different heat exchanger!

worc for me,as for the aluminum/silicone heat ex i did have my doubts at first but after servicing a few of them recently they seem to be ok,very little debris in the trap unlike the valliants i have come across one was only eighteen months old and rotted through.
to be fair to valliant it was an install prob not product

I've been put off Ali by the results I've seen on the Ideal Isars and Icos's I used to fit and the fact that Ali is only usually talked about as lasting about 10 years by the manufacturers.

Looking at the prices I dont think the special offer Vitodens 100 is going to be much more expensive so I may suggest she has one of those.

Trouble is at the monent I cannot find out the price or colour of the Viessmann plume diversion kit.

As far as I am aware the Vaillant flue is only in WHITE but the plume kit is in WHITE or BLACK !

Showing yourself up again Tony as a non installer!

Yes the Vaillant flue is white, but the black plume kit comes with a black rubber sealing ring an black flue termination, so if you cut the flue to the correct length, as I'm sure you would  , non of the white shows externally ;)

Thats correct Dave, I repair boilers but I saw this fellow fitting one last week with a white plume diverter.

As there is more in the black kit then its presumably more expensive!

But my experience of merchants is they stock neither and when you order one colour you get the other, so good luck to yer.

No its the same price. £36 and a few pennies. At first I used to buy the black plume kit and the black terminal kit, but soon found I was returning it for credit!

On a typical brick wall the black is far less conspicuous.

They are being used to make non compliant installations fit.

I saw one with the flue 200 mm from nearby wall. Just 100 mm of plume diverter made it 300 mm !
