Hi

A while back I removed the carpet from my stair case and now
I wish to paint the stairs (I'm aware it's going to be noisy without carpet but the wife's not bothered about that!).

I was planning to gently sand down the treads and risers to remove all the dirt and then paint. I wanted to know what type of paint I should use? I want something that isn't going to chip easily as you walk up the stairs. A friend I chatted used suggested I used Dulux weathershield as it is flexible. Any advice is appreciated.

thanks

Dulux Weathershield is way to far flexible for this one.

I would go for Dulux Trade High Gloss in your circumstances.

thanks for the reply.

Is Dulux Trade High Gloss different from just the ordinary Dulux Gloss? ie, what makes it more suitable for this task?

It's just that I have tonnes of the ordinary left over from previous decorating so I would prefer to use that _if_ it won't make such a big difference.

thanks

When third eye mentions gloss dont forget hes not talking about putting that straight on...youl need to undercoat still.

My only reservation with anything shiney is that is also very slippery..dangerous if you or especially kids go down the stair in their socks

We used one coat of primer, couple of coats emulsion in chosen colour and then several coats of diamond hard satin varnish. The varnish left a slight yellowing on the white emulsion but it is not unattractive. Probably a bit of a time consuming way to get the job done but we are happy with it.
