Cable looks rubbish on external wall.

So I decided to put up some external wall lamps, used a weatherproof junction box and armoured swa cable (nice and chunky).

Now looking back at my lovely pointed brick wall, the thick black cable looks absolutely rubbish against it. I had to use about 6 metres to get to one of the lamps and it all looks very unsightly. I didnt have the option of hiding the cable behind gutters or anything else for that matter.

And to make matters worse as the lamps need to be fairly low down, you can easily see the cable from head height.

Does anyone know of anything that might help disguise the cable? Either a cover? Or some kind of paint? Or anything else!

The bricks are nice worn victorian yellow london stocks.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Cheers, J.

Sounds like bare micc (mims) would be just the ticket.
Not a job for diy though, takes skill to get it to look good.

Edit just to say ...... that RF is damned fast.

Thanks for the advice - you're both right, that looks like pretty mean cable for a diy-er. Also, the black cable I've already fitted (and lost the whole of my sunday to!) is now already there in all its glory.

Do you know if it's possible to (and as I write this I am fully aware of how stupid it sounds) PAINT cable the colour of yellow bricks? Or if there is some form of cable cover or ducting to try to disguise it a little?

Cheers, J

You should be able to paint it ok, I've seen plenty of cables painted over with masonry paint.

put a strip of card behind the cable as you paint to avoid it getting on the brick.

On PVC, a single flowing coat of non-drip gloss gives a strong and long-lived finish (no undercoat or primer). the gloss will dull with age.

And I was going to suggest artic cable

Yellow

Of course

I'm not sure I like the idea of yellow flex being used for 230V wiring.

(yes I know you can buy stuff / 230V extensions etc. with yellow flex, but I don't like it)

not ideal but given that there isn't any 110V wiring arround I don't see any real problem.
