I've got an old DW957 which has knackered batteries. Was thinking about buying This and using the batteries for both drills.

However, the old batteries are 'Extended Run' ones and the new ones are not..

Are the Extended Run batteries better in terms of actual runtime, or is it just a label thing?..

cheers

I don't know the answer to your question but would suggest that you maybe upgrade to nimh batteries rather than the nicd type.

extended run time just means more fuel in the tank [2 ah instead of say 1.5 amp hour]
all dewalt batteries [12-18v ] have been the same for years and will still fit so yes your drill

will fit the new batts ony the volts need to be the same the a/h can be any size you like

i done exactly this idea when my dewealt 18v drill packed up i bought a jigsaw abd they are all going strong

just try charging the old batteries on the new charger and the new batts on the old charger
when i done that all batters and chargers worked fine!!!!!!!!!

I was looking at the Nimh batteries, but apparently even if they have the same voltage, the fitting is different from the nicd ones (according to the retailer). Can someone confirm this?

I wanted to get the old drill working at the same time as getting a new one, as the drill itself still works fine..

So there's no difference between '2.0Ah NiCD' and 'XR2 2.0Ah NiCD' ?

absolutly none[except ones got a spoiler ooooo no thats the car ;) ]

If you can't find the batteries you require it may be possible to re-cell them, or have the job done for you. I've had some old Bosch cells refurbished by a company called Re-Cell as Bosch no longer supply the packs I needed - they were upgraded automatically to 2.0Ah at the same time so now have longer running time, too. Give them a try
