I am about to run a new armoured power cable underground to my garage and at the same time I want to run an extra cable so when I fit an alarm I can add the garage in as an extra zone.

I believe if I just use standard cable it will break down if it is buried, so is there any cable available that I can bury alongside the power cable without it breaking down??

You could use a multicore SWA.

How many cores do you require for the garage?

I have a network zone expander in my garage so I only had to run 4 cores from the house to the garage, but can still utilise as many zones, keypads, bellboxes etc as I need.

Small bore ducting for the alarm cable . Non flattening garden hose pipe is a very cheap solution. Then next in price is plastic water pipe or similar. To get a draw cord through a vaccum cleaner will pull a cotton wool pig with a fishing line through the pipe.

(pig= object that is able to move freely in the pipe like a piston )

Agree with bernard this is the easiest and cheapest option it will also provide adequete protection to the cable
