Hi
Can anyone help. I have been asked to decorate a room that is wallpapered. The paper is in good condition but has a slight vinyl feel to it. Is it possible to line over this paper then paint as usual?
Basically would be great to line without having to take the old paper off just need to know if the lining will stick to the old paper.
Cheers guys
Rob

Your pushing your luck with a vinyl. It sheds water and as paste is made mostly of waterit will try to push that off as well. If its a washable paper you might be ok but, the best thing really is to strip it all back and start a fresh.

Many vinyls have a built in lining paper that will stay on the wall when you strip it.

Thanks chaps
To get the vinyl off without the lining, is best to stay away from a stripper (not the female type) and just try to peel it off without water?

Most solid sheet vinyls will dry strip leaving the backing paper. try taking it from near the skirting first.

And dont be tempted to paint over the backing paper either..that wont work.

and dont try to paper over the backing paper as that prob wont work as well  specially if the previous diyer mixed the paste weak. It will bubble. Just strip the whole thing. peel the vinyl soak the backing paper with warm water and it will come off a dream. honest:cool:
