Afternoon folks,

Im in the middle of ripping the bathroom out. One wall is plasterboard. it was tiled so i ripped the plaster board down only to find another layer of board behind. How do i go about fixing the new board to it? There doesnt seem to be many stud/noggins to secure it to. Do i need to get some kind of special fixings...or can i leave the single layer of board and tile straight on top???

Thanks,

TMD

I would ask myself why didn't the previous guy tile on this ?

Hmmmm..... could be quite simple he might have wanted more soundproofing, but you never know

If it sits against the bath use aqua panel to prevent water damage when tiled.

Cheers for the replies chaps.

I dont know why the previous fella didnt tile straight onto this. The whole stud partition wall is double boarded. Might be like Bilioustrumpstaine said and be to do with soundproofing

If i just tiled onto the plasterboard wont the topping paper come away from the chalk stuff?? Or isnt the adhesive for tiles that wet???

Cheers,

TMD

Are you using the bath just as a bath or will it have a shower as well ?

If there is a shower I would take down the plasterboard and use aquapanel (or similar) and maybe consider tanking it as well.

If you are just going onto plasterboard then check with the instructions on your tile adhesive as to what priming is needed.
