Recently noticed that the feed pipe from the F&E tank gets warmer further up the pipe than the vent pipe, I presume that as the water expands it does heat up these pipes but is this OK?
S plan by the way.

Yes, water and copper conduct heat.

As long as its not pumping water back over into the header from the open vent you are fine

thanks for that S.
Does the term pumping over only refer to water coming out of the vent pipe or would that include hot water going all the way up the feed pipe into the F&E tank?

Pumping over refers to water being pushed out of the vent pipe thats over the F&E tank. This is a sure sign that you have a problem.

In your case, you system is behaving perfectly normal.

The feed pipe is a misnomer, as feeding the radiators and HW cylinder is only one of its two functions. It also allows the heated water to rise up it due to expansion.
