Hi

My cooker is about 18 months old and the grill wont stay on, it lights but then after a few seconds it just goes out. Has anyone come across this problem and if so is it something that i can sort rather than having to replace the cooker? The oven and rings work with no problem at all.

Thank you :D

This should not be a big problem, and it is unlikely you will have to replace the cooker. It would be advisable to ask a Corgi engineer to repair it for you.

Most New World Gas Cookers do have a sola grill, and the flame burns on the
surface of the grill rather than having a burner at the back.

pinksnowball has not said whether his grill is a sola grill at high level but he does say the burner goes out. It could be just a simple matter of cleaning out the injector to the grill.

Sola grills are prone to splitting of the mesh but not normally after 18mths what happens is it lets unburnt gas through the mesh and it builds up and makes a very small explosion and blows the burner out. If this is the problem it's a simple job to replace grill burner.

I have exactly the same problem. I see many replies mentioning solar grills, my grill is in the same part as the oven. To use my grill I have to keep my oven door ajar using a metal strip that came with the cooker. When I turn on the grill flames heat up a sort of mesh, thats the only description I can give.

A few weeks ago whilst at families house my sister in law started complaining that her grill inside her cooker wouldn't stay on. I told her mine was doing the same and went into her kitchen to see if we had the same New World cooker which we did. So it seems this is a common problem. I have had mine now for about 18 months.

Also before it stopped working a lot of thick black greasy smelling smoke would come from the grill.

Any help would be much appreciated as I miss simply grilled cheese on toast.

Re your probs, your cooker does not have a solar grill, you say you are experiencing the grill not staying on, does that mean that when you let go the button after the ten second period to establish the grill flame, its then going out? If this is the case then it sounds like your thermocouple could need replacing, or the grill flame is not reaching the thermocouple tip, your sister in law also has the same problem, either way you will need a corgi man.

The black greasy smelling smoke is common with the cookers with the grill incorporated into the oven, when using the oven the fat from the food invariably splashes up onto the grill and burns when you use the grill later, the longer its unused the harder the fat gets on the grill and the more it smokes, not much you can do about it, i suppose its a bad design, I take a lot of cookers out because customers are disappointed with the way their cooker works with the grill and oven combined.

Hi Rayuk Thanks very much for the info. I think it may be better for me to replace the cooker as it was only cheap and its going to cost me a fair bit of cash to call out a Corgi reg engineer. I also want separate grill and oven as sometimes when I cook I need both. So it looks like replacing the cooker in the near future. No cheese on toast for a while :(

Cheers ray
