We had problems with rats recently in the garden, not the house thankfully and our cat left us a present almost exactly like your pic. We eventually called out the ratman but if you fancy some fun get yourself a .22 air-rifle/pistol, I spent a pleasant afternoon the end of last summar picking them off, got 3 in one day.

Won't cure the problem, think only poison can get rid completely (they breed like mad) but great entertainment and they didn't suffer.

well done, you have a ferocious cat

however rats will fight to the death so a big one may be more difficult.

They need a good source of water such as a pond or leaking pipe.

look for their nest and source of food.

Many people keep a well-stocked rat-table in the garden, during daylight, birds sometimes steal some of the rats' food off it.

Our cat likes a challenge he has also had a squirrel and I have got this pic quick when he was challenging a fox.
