I need to fit a (preferably ceiling mounted) extractor fan in my bathroom but I can't decide which is the best way to do it.

Can they be vented OK through a soffit or do they have to go through the roof itself? I'd prefer to put it through the soffit as it seems like it would be less distruptive.

Any tips on which type of extractor & ducting would be useful. I'm planning on installing it myself and getting the electricians to hook it up to the mains.

Cheers

Hello mate,

Mine goes through my soffet, I like you didn't fancy going through the roof. It's a screwfix one, was about £40 I think.

I've got a picture somewhere, http://www.yourmissus.com/vacuum/pages/7.html

It's actually a picture of my vacuum cleaner ductwork, but you can just see the fan in there, it comes with two lots of 4" flexy pipe. I used a 102mm holesaw to do the hole in the bathroom ceiling and another in the upvc and wood soffet.

Quite an easy job, I was finished in a few hours. Nice and quiet too.
